Frequently asked questions
- How do I fill in a PDF that has no fillable fields?
- Click on the page where you want to write and start typing. You can also add checkmarks, crosses, and today's date, and drag anything to move it. This works on scanned forms too.
- What does "Lock answers" do?
- It turns the form fields into plain page content (flattening), so the answers can't be edited afterward and look the same in every viewer. Leave it off if someone still needs to edit the form.
- Can I edit the text that's already in the PDF?
- No. This tool adds to a PDF rather than rewriting what's there. To change existing wording, you'd need the original document (like the Word file) it was made from.
- Why does it say my form uses XFA?
- Some older government and Adobe forms use a format called XFA that only Adobe Reader can fill. You can still type on top of those pages with Add text.
- Can I sign the form too?
- Yes, in the same place. Click "Add your signature", draw or type it, and drag it onto the signature line. Answers, text, and signature download together in one PDF.
- Is the signature legally binding?
- It places an image of your signature on the page, like signing a printout, which is accepted for many everyday forms. It isn't a certificate-based digital signature, so check what the recipient requires.
- Are my files uploaded?
- No. The PDF is opened and edited by your browser, on your device. It's never sent to a server.
